Black Economic Empowerment Movement, a Civil Society Organisation, has pledged to lobby for more funding towards the expansion of production capacity for Salima Sugar company.
Robert Mkwezalamba, Chairperson for the movement, says the company needs to scale up production from the current 25,000 metric tons of sugar to 100,000 metric tons annually.
Salima Sugar has over 6000 hectares of land but has only managed to develop 1500 hectares of land for sugar cane production.
Its operations resumed a few days ago and they are currently producing 1250 metric tons of sugar a day.
