Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the socio-economic challenges currently facing the country.
Chimwendo Banda, who is also the Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, made these remarks during a political rally in Chikwawa.
Speaking to thousands of supporters at the Chikwawa Secondary School ground, Chimwendo emphasised that, in addition to the ongoing distribution of relief food items, the government is focusing on promoting winter cropping as a strategy to combat hunger in the Lower Shire districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa.
Chimwendo Banda urged the people of Chikwawa and Nsanje to support MCP and vote for President Dr Lazarus Chakwera in the upcoming elections on September 16.
He said Dr Chakwera will continue distributing different development projects without looking at political affiliations.
He then said the government will soon start constructing Sidic Mia Road and Gwanda Chakuamba highway.
During the rally, Member of Parliament for Chikwawa North, Owen Chomanika, announced his defection to MCP, stating that he joined the party because its vision aligns with his development goals for the region.
MCP Deputy Vice President Abida Mia also addressed the gathering, assuring people that President Chakwera will secure an easy victory in the elections on September 16.
The rally was attended by MCP’s Campaign Director, Moses Kunkuyu, some cabinet ministers, Brown Mpinganjira and other senior party officials.
