Cases of dumping litres of milk due to power outages will soon be history for dairy farmers under the Mangunda Milk Bulking Group in Thyolo District.
This follows a K100 million grant, the group has received from the Transforming Agriculture through Diversification and Entrepreneurship (TRADE) Programme to purchase solar electricity backup system and a water tank.
According to TRADE’s Grants Management Specialist, Andrew Chidothe, they have set aside $20 million for grants to improve innovative business ideas in rural areas.
“We are very ready to fund innovative ideas,” said Chidothe.
Treasurer for Mangunda Milk Bulking Group, Elias Piringu, farmers lose K5 million as they have to dump litres of spoilt milk due to power outages.
Mangunda Milk Bulking Group has a membership of about 500 people.
