President Dr Lazarus Chakwera believes empowering the work of creators and innovators in the country can potentially bring solutions to Malawi’s challenges.
Dr Chakwera was speaking in Lilongwe at the commemorations of World Creativity and Innovation Day where he emphasised that his government values the promotion of youths’ inventions for the development of the country.
He also stressed the need for Malawi to develop innovative programmes that can attract international support and contribute to the country’s development.
UNDP Resident Coordinator in Malawi, Rebbacca Addah Donto, commended the government for elevating innovation to a central pillar of Malawi’s vision for 2063.
The innovations are coordinated under the office of the President and Cabinet where ministries are coming up with innovation as a way of reforming the civil service.
The International Creativity and Innovation Day is commemorated on 21 April every year and this year it was under the theme: “Step out, create and innovate”.
