Newly elected Chairperson for the Salima District Council, Ephraim Manthepa, has pledged to strength cooperation and collaboration between the Council Secretariat and stakeholders.
On Tuesday, the district elected new office bearers where Manthepa got eight votes, beating Councillor Alena Pelete who got 6 votes while the Vice Council Chairperson slot went to Mwanza Ward Councillor, Letani Mthaphwi.
In his acceptance speech, Manthepa pledged to ensure timely completion of development projects and to incorporate Village Development Plans into the council’s agenda to ensure inclusive progress.
He also pledged to ensure that every service committee at the council is revamped.
District Commissioner for Salima, James Mwenda, said the elections, facilitated by officials from the Malawi Electoral Commission,
were free and fair.
Mwenda said the council will provide technical and administrative support to the new leadership so that it should succeed during the tenure.
