Chairperson for Karonga Main Market, Godwin Ghambi, has said uncollected garbage that is accumulating at the market premises poses a danger to residents’ health, blaming district council authorities for alleged negligence.
Ghambi has told MANA that traders and customers are being forced to bear the stench emanating from the pile.
“The smell has become unbearable… A large amount of waste remains unattended to, attracting flies which land on fresh vegetables, fish and meat which may lead to the spread of diseases like Cholera,” said Ghambi.
District Environmental Officer for Karonga Council, Khumbo Mbeye, said they are facing transportation challenges to run the errand at the market.
