National Planning Commission (NPC) has stressed that the 2025/26 national budget statement that was presented in Parliament by Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, aligns with the Malawi 2063 blueprint.
NPC outgoing Director General, Thomas Munthali, in a statement, said the government has shown commitment in making sure that by 2063 Malawi will be a self-reliant nation because the budget highlighted the importance of productive sectors of Agriculture, Tourism, Mining and Manufacturing (formerly ATM Strategy now ATM+M Strategy).
Munthali added that by adding manufacturing to ATM strategy, it shows that the government appreciates the benefits of having a robust manufacturing sector, as a nation which produces more enjoys price stability, availability of forex and combats unsustainable debts.
He further said the ATM+M shows the government’s dedication in ensuring that raw materials in mining and agriculture add value to manufacturing within Malawi, thereby creating more jobs.
He also emphasised that the budget statement has complemented President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s State of National Address by presenting the state of the economy and what is being done to address the challenges, especially around price stability and forex.
