CS-EPWP hailed for cushioning communities from hunger

Communities in Nkhata Bay have described the Climate-Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme (CSE-PWP) as a game-changer in providing much needed support to families struggling with hunger.

In an interview on Friday, during a pay parade at Thula clinic in the area of Senior Chief Malanda, a participant of the programme, Elizabeth Banda,59, said she is always assured that after working in various projects to conserve soil, she will be paid to support her family.

“With the K48, 000.00 I have received, the plan is to buy food for my family, and if it was not for this programme, the situation could have been worse in this lean season,” Banda said.

Another participant, Joseph Chirwa, from Mpita village echoed Banda’s sentiments, saying the programme has given him hope and a sense of purpose.

“I have been able to earn a steady income, which has helped me to start a business of selling fish, which has enabled me to feed my family, “he said.

CSE-PWP District Programme Facilitator, Edward Ngwemba said he is impressed with how participants are adhering to pay parade guidelines.

CSE-PWP is Malawi Government’s program being implemented across the country through the National Local Government Finance Committee with support from Multi-Donor Trust Fund and World Bank benefiting  15, 418 participants in Nkhata Bay.
