Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) in conjunction with Farmers Organisation Limited has supported the Lilongwe District Council with Cholera prevention kits.
Community Health Coordinator for MRCS, Francis Liyati Phiri, said Lilongwe was targeted since it serves over 3 million people, hence it was imperative to boost its preparedness and response on Cholera outbreak.
Farmers Organisation Limited, Branch Manager for Lilongwe, Harry Saini, said the funds they donated to Red Cross is part of ploughing back to the community the company is serving.
Director of Health Services at Lilongwe District Council, Dr Wilson Ching’ani, has since hailed the two institutions for the kind gesture.
Dr Ching’ani was quick to point out that, despite recording zero cases this year, the cholera supplies will help strengthen hygiene in health facilities across the district.
He attributed the absence of cholera cases so far to close collaboration between health officials and the Malawi Red Cross Society in promoting awareness of disease prevention.
Chlorine, ORS, gloves, soap, and buckets are among the cholera prevention supplies donated to Lilongwe District Council.
