Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, Jean Sendeza, has lauded Moyo Ngwathu, a local NGO, for its efforts in environmental conservation and education development.
During a tree-planting exercise and a school block inspection in Kambewa Village, Traditional Authority M’bwatalika in Lilongwe, the minister noted the organization’s accountability and urged more partnerships for community progress.
The event was attended by donor partners, who are supporting Moyo Ngwathu’s initiatives.
The NGO’s Chief Executive Officer, Ringo Kanshulu, reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, especially amid Malawi’s funding crisis following USAID’s withdrawal.
The organization is currently constructing four semi-detached teachers’ houses and four school blocks, funded by an annual budget of €375,000 approximately K694.3 million.
Beyond education, Moyo Ngwathu also focuses on water, sanitation, and women’s empowerment.
Senior Chief M’bwatalika commended the NGO’s infrastructure projects and announced new by-laws to protect the planted trees. A community competition will be introduced, rewarding families that best preserve their allocated trees.
Moyo Ngwathu is a locally registered NGO partnering with ENG Oppen Hand für Malawi and Foundation Ste Zithe from Germany. Its mission is to improve health and well-being in Malawi’s rural communities.
