Institute of People Management–Malawi (IPMM) has expressed concern over continued gaps in legal compliance among human resources personnel.
Speaking during a continuous professional development meeting in Mzuzu, IPMM Executive Council Member Patrick Chipeka Phiri said there is a need for HR professionals to strictly adhere to labour laws.
Phiri said the latest revelations by Ministers of Labour during their inspections of various workplaces are a testament to this lack of compliance.
“We have seen closures of companies by the Ministry of Labour and you will notice that failure to comply with laws and regulations is rampant,” said Phiri.
He attributed the challenges to various factors, including pressure from boards, fear among HR professionals to challenge management decisions, and other structural constraints.
He said his organisation holds such meetings to remind the HR professionals on the need to comply with laws.
