Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Mkombedzi, Abida Mia, who is also Minister of Water and Sanitation, has launched construction works of a K165 million Fodya Bridge.
Once completed, the bridge will connect several villages in Senior Chief Ngabu’s area in Chikwawa Mkombedzi, which Mia said will significantly address residents’ mobility challenges.
“The new bridge will enhance connectivity and transportation efficiency, ensuring safe passage over rivers and other obstacles,” said Mia.
Speaking at the launch, District Commissioner for Chikwawa, Nardin Kamba, emphasised the need for quality work.
“As Chikwawa District Council, we strive for durable construction works,” he said.
The bridge will be constructed within 90 days by Triple B. Construction and GJ Civil Engineering under the Global Environment and Social Development programme, funded by the World Bank.
According to the contractor, the construction phase begins on Monday with the help of local workmanship.
