Parliament has passed two land-related bills, namely Section Titles and Property Valuation Bill.
Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba, says once the bills become laws, they will increase the number of people owning property, including part of a building, and create job opportunities among Malawians.
The Section Titles Bill will establish a legal framework allowing Malawians to own sections of property or units, build and own multi-storey buildings and share common property to promote the country’s socio-economic development.
On the other hand, the Property Evaluation Bill will ensure that there is proper evaluation of land and property, protect people from unfair pricing of land and property and establish a Commissioner of Evaluation office and a tribunal to manage complaints concerning land and property-related issues.
Supporting the bills, DPP representative Yusuf Nthenda said the new bills will ensure Malawians are safe and protected from fraudulent land transactions which arise time and again.
The House is expected to pass another bill, Real Estate Management, tomorrow after concluding debate on the bill today.
