Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, has urged those in the education sector to work towards strengthening discipline in secondary schools.
This, in her view, can help improve examinations pass rate.
Wirima said this in Lilongwe on Monday when the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB)Executive Director, Dorothy Nampota, announced that out of 172,434 candidates who sat the MSCE examinations, 97,222 passed.
This represents a pass rate of 54.79%, an improvement from the 54.40% pass rate in 2023.
However, this did not impress her. She cited indiscipline in some of the schools which have performed poorly as a contributing factor.
“I understand there is a slight increase in the pass rate but I still feel we can do better. As government, we will do our part in terms of providing needed resources, but schools and students must also do their part,” Wirima said.
