A total of 11 African innovators have been shortlisted for the Future of Energy Conference 2026 Innovation Challenge, following a review of applications from across the continent.
The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), in partnership with Africa Change Lab (ACL), announced the finalists on 16 August in Accra, Ghana.
The competition seeks African-led solutions to energy transition, sustainable industrialisation, climate resilience and critical mineral value addition.
The finalists are competing in two categories: the Pan-African Low Carbon Track and the AfroHackathon Track.
They include innovators from Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Ghana, working on areas such as solar energy, biogas, climate finance, biodegradable packaging, battery recycling, energy storage and solar-powered mobility.
ACEP says the shortlisted innovators will proceed to the next stage, where they will prepare to present their solutions to policymakers, investors, researchers and industry leaders.
The final pitch event will take place during the Future of Energy Conference in Accra from 25 to 26 August.
The challenge is supported by ACL, ACEP and the United Nations Development Programme through its Timbuktoo Initiative.
