Government has called for continued collaboration with the private sector and development partners in implementing viable interventions towards attaining quality and affordable energy solutions.
Minister of Energy, Jean Mathanga, made the remarks in Lilongwe at the Energising Development Malawi Impact and Portfolio Development Dialogue held at the BICC.
Speaking during the dialogue, Mathanga said the programme has helped transform communities in various aspects, citing solar refrigeration, irrigation, processing and other technologies as some of the traceable activities that have helped businesses and farmers overcome energy constraints.
The dialogue was held to reflect on the impact of the programme at national level, as it transitions to a new programme called ENGAGE.
The new programme seeks to contribute to the broader objective of accelerating energy transition.
In Malawi, the programme started in 2012 and has reached 2.44 million people with modern energy, including 238,000 with electricity and 2.21 million with modern cooking solutions, with more than 1.2 million being women and girls.
