‘10,000 households to benefit from biogas by 2027’

Over 10,000 households across Malawi are expected to benefit from biogas technology being implemented by EcoGen Malawi by 2027.

Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change, Patricia Wiskes, has since expressed satisfaction with the initiative, describing it as a sustainable alternative energy solution with the potential to improve household livelihoods and protect the environment.

Wiskes made the remarks when she visited EcoGen’s warehouse in Blantyre to appreciate the company’s biogas technology.

She said the technology could help Malawi address energy challenges by providing clean cooking energy while also enabling farmers to produce organic fertiliser from livestock waste.

Meanwhile, EcoGen Chief Executive Officer, Clement Kandodo, said the technology is easy to operate and the company is training farmers to produce both cooking energy and fertiliser using livestock waste.

Kandodo said the initiative could also help reduce dependence on charcoal and firewood, thereby contributing to environmental conservation.

EcoGen Malawi is a Malawian clean-energy company specialising in biogas solutions that convert livestock waste into clean cooking energy and organic fertiliser.
