The National Advocacy Platform has released an assessment of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s first year in office, recognising progress in economic stabilisation, education, agriculture, road rehabilitation, fiscal discipline and constitutional governance.
In its findings NAP says headline inflation fell from 28.2 percent in August 2025 to 20 percent in August 2026, while food inflation declined to 13.4 percent.
The organisation also recognises the expansion of free secondary education, the K42 billion allocation for higher education student loans and the K931.1 billion allocation to agriculture, including about K111 billion for the Farm Input Subsidy Programme.
NAP has further welcomed the K1.02 trillion health allocation, renewed road rehabilitation efforts and the increase in the Constituency Development Fund to K5 billion per constituency.
The organisation says reduced domestic borrowing and progress in discussions with the International Monetary Fund towards a possible Extended Credit Facility are encouraging.
Overall, NAP says the first year provides “reasonable grounds for cautious confidence” and a credible basis for accelerated delivery.
