Govt values surveyors — Chipungu

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Chimwemwe Chipungu says the government values surveyors as key technical partners in translating national development aspirations into practical outcomes.

He made the remarks in Salima District during the official opening of the 2026 Continuing Professional Development Annual General Conference for the Surveyors Institute of Malawi.

Chipungu said surveyors play a key role in infrastructure development, which is a key driver of Malawi’s economic transformation agenda.

He said the transformation of Malawi requires professionals who can provide reliable information, exercise sound judgement, embrace technology, uphold professional ethics and contribute innovative solutions to the challenges facing the nation.

Chipungu thus challenged surveyors to remain innovative, technologically competent, ethical, commercially responsive and committed to the sustainable development of Malawi.

President of the Surveyors Institute of Malawi, Alice Gwedeza, said the Institute shares similar aspirations with the government in transforming the country.

She said the conference offers members an opportunity to discuss how they can embrace technology without compromising their professionalism.

The theme for the 2026 Continuing Professional Development Annual General Conference is “The Evolving Role of Surveyors in Driving Digital Transformation and Sustainable Built Environment.”
