NICE sensitises traders on engagement with council officials

The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) has urged traders operating in Dedza markets to consistently engage with council authorities to address issues affecting markets in the district.

Daniel Malango, Civic Education Officer for Lilongwe and Dedza told MBC in an interview that they are currently orienting market committees on effective methods of engaging with the Dedza District Council in preparation for the 2025 Tripartite Elections.

“We [NICE] are gearing up for the upcoming general elections with various activities,”  he explained. “At present, we are focusing on training market committees on civic engagement as the most effective means of communicating with authorities to solve problems.”

Elia Dzonzi, Chairperson of the Msikawanjala Market Committee in the district, lauded the council for promptly addressing issues affecting the traders. However, Dzonzi urged the council to expedite maintenance of electricity lights inside the market, which have remained non-functional for some time.
