Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda says Professor Mutharika’s administration remains committed to economic diplomacy.
Chaponda said President Mutharika looks forward to working with the government of India to promote mining.
He said this in Lilongwe during a meeting he held with the Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, Shri Amararam Gujar and Minister of Mining Thoko Tembo to discuss stronger cooperation in the mining sector.
The talks focused on investment in mineral exploration and development, including rare earth resources, and on strengthening Government-to-Government and Business-to-Business partnerships.
Chaponda thanked the Government of India for its interest in partnering with Malawi and said both countries are committed to a mutually beneficial relationship that supports sustainable economic development
On his part, Tembo said he was hopeful that the remaining mining Memorandum of Understanding between Malawi and India would soon be finalised and signed to unlock investment and support national development.
Gujar has welcomed the engagement and reaffirmed India’s commitment to cooperation in mineral exploration and value addition.
