Zomba-based football fans have welcomed Mighty Wanderers’ decision to use Zomba Stadium as their home ground for the 2026/27 football season.
This follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the club and Zomba City Council on Friday in Zomba after the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) declared Wanderers’ designated home ground, Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, unfit to host elite matches on 13 April 2026 due to failure to meet required standards.
The Nomads are expected to begin using the stadium on Sunday when they face Silver Strikers in a 2026/27 FDH Premiership match.
Mighty Wanderers Zomba Chief Supporter Dave Muonjeza said the development will excite and motivate the club’s supporters in the city.

Chairperson of the Football Development Committee on the Mighty Wanderers Board, David Kanyenda, described the agreement as an important step in expanding the club’s presence and bringing football closer to supporters across the country.
Chief Executive Officer for Zomba City Council, Archangel Bakolo, said the agreement can promote football.
He said the sport is creating excitement among the fans in the Eastern Region.
Sports analyst Danny Chemis Makiyi expressed optimism that both the club and the council will benefit from the arrangement through increased revenue generation and tourism activities.

Mighty Wanderers currently sit ninth on the FDH Premiership table with six points from three matches.
