Ministry of Education is confident that the construction of 10,900 classrooms in public primary schools under the Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP) will significantly address challenges affecting basic education across the country.
Principal Secretary in charge of basic education at the Ministry, Rachel Chimbwete Phiri, has told MBC Digital that the construction of the classrooms is progressing well, with some nearing completion for immediate use.
Phiri said other components of MERP, such as the recruitment of auxiliary teachers, leadership training for educators and the provision of School Improvement Grants are expected to further enhance primary education reform.
MERP is being implemented with support from the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education across all 34 education districts in Malawi.
