Mudzi Connect says it has approved more than $130,000 (Approximately K227.7 million) in grants for 19 projects in Malawi.
In a statement, it says the grants were approved at the seventh board meeting after 1,105 applications underwent eligibility screening, reviews and independent assessments.
Of the funding, nine projects under the International Grants Programme will receive $68,894 for school sanitation, clean water, STEM education and vocational training in seven districts.
Meanwhile, five beekeeping projects have been allocated $32,062 to help cooperatives expand honey processing and work towards Malawi Bureau of Standards certification.
In addition, five innovation projects will share $29,107 for initiatives including urine-based fertiliser, low-cost irrigation kits, recycled-plastic products, footwear and pottery.
Mudzi Connect Executive Director Frank Charles Kasonga said the projects demonstrated the strength and ingenuity of communities across Malawi.
“These 19 projects reflect the strength and ingenuity of communities across Malawi,” Kasonga said.
The organisation says beneficiaries will contribute cash, labour and resources.
The projects are expected to directly benefit 11,625 people and indirectly reach 58,125 through improved health, education and economic opportunities.
