Vice-Chancellor of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Professor Emmanuel Kaunda, has expressed delight over the university’s recent achievement of being ranked the top in Malawi and 15th in Sub-Saharan Africa by the Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings.
129 universities from 22 countries were ranked using a methodology that has been developed specifically to assess the impact of universities in addressing some of the toughest challenges faced in the region.
Professor Kaunda said the achievement reaffirms LUANAR’s position as a transformative force in Malawi’s economy and a beacon of academic excellence in Africa.
“We remain dedicated to providing exceptional education and research opportunities that drive positive impact in Africa,” he said.
Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) has been ranked the second-best university in Malawi and 22nd in Sub-Saharan Africa. Meanwhile, South Africa’s University of Johannesburg has claimed the top spot in the region.
