Guidance and Counselling Association of Malawi has called for intensified efforts to effectively address mental health issues in the country.
President of the association, Gibozi Mphanzi, made the remarks in Lilongwe during a two day Mental Health Facilitation Training on Thursday.
Mphanzi stressed that the focus should be on training more mental health practitioners to intervene and reduce mental health-related deaths.
He said his association is drilling teachers on key skills with which to identify if a student is affected by mental health issues.
One of the participants, Khalil Hussein Matola, a teacher at Chilambula Secondary School, said mental health issues disrupt of educational progress.
