Zomba-based 1Malawi Rifles (1MR) team, which is under Cobbe Barracks, has emerged the best in the 2024 Malawi Defense Force (MDF) Tactical March and Combat Competition held at Kaning’ina Gallery Range in Mzuzu.
The team has beaten twelve other units that participated in the competition and has received K6 million, gold medals and a trophy.
Malawi Defence Force Commander, General Paul Velentino Phiri, said the competition is part of the training soldiers undergo to keep them physically fit and improve their tactical and shooting skills.
Armour Regiment came second and receives K3 million and silver medals while third-placed Moyale Barracks got K2 million and bronze medals.
According to the MDF Commander, the competition will return next year under the name: ‘The Commanders Cup’.
