Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Mary Navicha says the government remains committed to eliminating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to ensure that women and children live free from violence.
Navicha made the remarks in Lilongwe during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Gender and World Vision Malawi on Tuesday.
According to her, this is aimed at strengthening collaboration in addressing challenges affecting vulnerable groups.
Navicha said the collaboration between the two parties will help address challenges affecting women, children, persons with disabilities, older persons and persons with albinism.
She said the ministry will prioritise transparency and accountability to ensure that the partnership delivers tangible results and improves people’s lives.
Meanwhile, World Vision Malawi Country Director Francis Dube said World Vision is supporting about 70,000 children in early childhood development centres through school feeding programmes.
Dube said its women empowerment interventions are providing about 139,000 individuals across the country with access to microfinance.
He said the organisation is currently supporting about 17,000 children with disabilities in ten districts through referrals for corrective surgery and the provision of assistive devices, including wheelchairs, hearing aids, glasses and artificial limbs.
The Country Director added that the organisation plans to expand its disability inclusion programme from ten to 18 districts from January 2027, subject to the success of the initiative and availability of resources.
The agreement has been signed under the theme ” Building upon existing partnership: expanding of strategic technical cooperation”.
