Nurses are backbone of health care delivery – NONM

National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM) says Malawi needs to start recognising contributions made by nurses if it is to achieve universal health care coverage.

Executive Director for NONM, Peter Mvuma, has said this as nurses across the country are observing nurses week from 6 to 9 May , 2024 under the guidance of International Council of Nurses (ICN), whereby nurses are engaging in health care delivery within their communities through health care promotion campaigns.

According to Mvuma, nurses form 50 percent of the country’s health care sector hence need for interventions that would support nursing profession development and community engagement.

Malawi is poised to join the rest of the world in commemorating International Nurses Day on 12 May, 2024 under the theme “Our Nurses. Our future. The economic power of care” according to the Ministry of Health.
