Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), one of Malawi’s main referral hospitals, has reintroduced its paying maternity service at Ward 1A.
This service is targeting expectant mothers who wish to pay for specialised care during pregnancy and childbirth.
QECH Director General, Professor Patrick Kamalo, says the reintroduction of the service is aimed at improving the quality of care while providing patients with an alternative maternity option.
“The service, which was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, has resumed following the refurbishment of Ward 1A at a cost of about K100 million,” Professor Kamalo explained.
He said the upgraded ward is now equipped with modern, state-of-the-art medical equipment to enhance maternal healthcare services.
