Parliament rise sine die, 14 bills passed

Parliament has passed 14 bills during the 5th meeting of its 50th session, with the House adjourning sine die.

Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda, described the four weeks as successful as they have passed important bills for the benefit of Malawians.

However, Leader of Opposition, George Chaponda, blamed the government side for delaying some bills and questions from being tackled.

Chaponda said much as bills were passed, there was need for parliamentarians to be given 28 day notice as per the standing orders, arguing that seven days was not enough.

However, Chimwendo Banda said despite differences and heated debate in the House, parliamentarians managed to pass 14 bills including Real Estate Management Bill, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Bill.

Parliamentarians will now be looking forward to the next meeting, which will be the mid-year budget review.
