Minister of Gender, Jean Sendeza, has called on contractors to employ more local skilled labour in the construction of MACRA’s Connect a School ICT smart laboratories.
Sendeza, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South West, disclosed this during a ceremony for a new ICT lab at Mpingu Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Lilongwe.
“This project is not just about bringing technology to our schools. It is also about ensuring that our communities reap the benefits through employment and skill enhancement,” said Sendeza.
MACRA Head of Procurement Services, Joseph Ngalawa, said local communities stand to benefit from the construction of the labs through technological advancements, employment to skill development.
MACRA’s Connect a School smart laboratory project aims to construct ICT labs in 75 community schools in its first phase and seeks to construct more than 8,000 laboratories by the end of the project across the country.
