MDF calls for improved welfare of its retirees

Malawi Defense Force (MDF) has called on Government Agencies to expedite the payment of pension benefits to its retirees.

This comes as the Office of the Accountant General owes MDF retirees K6.5 billion as outstanding pension benefits.

The outstanding pension payment dates back to officers who retired five or six years ago and are still on the waiting list.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Defense, MDF Commander, General Paul Velentino Phiri, stressed the need to honour the retired servicemen.

Phiri pointed out that expediting the pension benefits will also help widows and injured retirees get the necessary financial support.
