AmCham in Malawi

American Chamber of Commerce in Malawi (AmCham) has launched its operations with a focus on strengthening trade, investment and commercial relations between Malawi and the United States of America.

In a statement, US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Melania Arreaga, said the establishment of AmCham marks a new chapter in the two countries’ commercial relationship.

Arreaga singled out mining and tourism as among the key areas, where American companies are expected to invest, saying the investments will create employment opportunities for many Malawians and contribute to economic growth.

She said Malawi’s mining sector has significant potential, particularly in critical minerals, while tourism offers another area of opportunity for American investors.

Arreaga also commended the Malawi Government for maintaining a cordial relationship with the United States, saying the cooperation provides a strong foundation for increased trade and investment.

She said American companies operating in Malawi will employ and train Malawians and reinvest in local communities. “This is not aid — this is partnership,” she said.

The launch highlighted the role played by NICO Group, Blantyre Hotels Limited (BHL) and Africap in bringing together the business community and supporting the establishment of AmCham, helping turn the initiative into an operational platform for stronger US-Malawi commercial relations.

AmCham will also drive initiatives in areas including healthcare and technology innovation, while providing a platform for businesses to connect, access opportunities and promote investment between the two countries.
