The diaspora wing of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) says President Dr Lazarus Chakwera should be applauded for his tireless efforts to bring investors to Malawi.
The wing’s leader, Chalo Mvula, said this ahead of President Chakwera’s trip to the USA where he is expected to attend the US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas Texas.
Mvula said Dr Chakwera’s attendance at the summit will accord Malawi an opportunity to court Foreign Direct Investment
Said Mvula: “Since he took over the presidency, Dr Chakwera has used every opportunity when he is abroad to engage investors. This is something that many Malawians overlook, however, the President needs to be applauded for that.
“The President has been leading from the front in as far as attracting foreign direct investment is concerned, he is not afraid or shy to sell Malawi as a better investment hub”
Mvula added that Malawi remains untapped in some key areas like Mining, Tourism, Agriculture, and ICT, which he said if marketed well during such high-profile international summits, the country stands to benefit.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Chakwera will attend the summit from 6 to 7 May 2024 at the invitation of the US Government.
In addition to the participation in the summit, the Malawi leader will also hold bilateral talks with various leaders of the US Government and business community.
