NRB in phase 7 of community death registration exercise

The National Registration Bureau says the expiry date of national IDs remains suspended until 1 January, 2026.

The suspension means that all IDs with expired date are still valid until 1 January, 2026.

However, all ID cards issued at the moment will still have an expiry date.

The Bureau says it is continuing to implement the National ID Outreach and Community Death Registration exercise across the country.

In a statement signed by NRB Principal Secretary, Mphatso Sambo, NRB says the exercise is aimed at offering opportunity to citizens who have just turned 16 years to register for their first ID card and to give a chance for replacement to those who have had their cards lost or damaged.

NRB says, on the other hand, the Community Death Registration exercise intends to register all deaths from 2017 to date in order to remove deceased persons in the National ID database.

NRB further says the National ID Outreach and Community Death Registration exercise is implemented in phases, with phase seven starting on 15 April, 2024 and ending on 29 April, 2024 covering Blantyre rural, Lilongwe East, and Rumphi district.
