Immigration appears before Parliament on passport printing saga

Officials from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services on Thursday appeared before the International Relations, Defence and Security Cluster Committee of Parliament, barely 24 hours after they were sent back due to the absence of the department’s Director General Charles Kalumo.

Senior officials from the Immigration Department, led by Kalumo, appeared before the legislators in Lilongwe, a meeting that was held on camera.

Chairperson of the cluster committee, who is also Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Central, Salim Bagus, says the committee will maintain the two-week ultimatum given by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for the department to resolve issues surrounding passport printing glitches.
