Malawi is set to host the 7th edition of the Africa-Wide Agricultural Extension Week, scheduled to take place from 12 to 16 May 2025.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe ahead of the event, Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, emphasised the importance of the Agriculture Extension Week, saying Malawi is honoured to share knowledge and gain valuable insights to further advance its agricultural sector.
He noted that the country is currently focusing on transitioning from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture, hence the need to explore innovations that can help farmers achieve this goal.
Kawale further said that the event will provide a platform for farmers to showcase their work through pavilions, learn from other countries, and gain insights into how to grow the sector sustainably.
This marks the first time Malawi will host the event, following previous editions in countries such as Nigeria, which hosted the 6th edition, and Uganda, the host of the 5th edition.
The 2025 Africa-Wide Agricultural Extension Week will bring together stakeholders from across Malawi and the African continent.
The event will be held under the theme: “Rebranding Extension for Enhanced Private/Public Sector-Driven Commercialisation, Industrialisation and Inclusive Food Systems.”
