Malawi continues to remain vigilant against Mpox disease, with the country yet to record a case despite screening over 46 suspected cases that all came out negative.
Addressing journalists in Blantyre, Deputy Director of Community Promotive Health Dr. Kondwani Mamba said the Ministry of Health is prepared to handle Mpox, with ongoing community sensitization campaigns.
Mpox has affected 14 countries so far, with the DRC, Burundi and Nigeria reporting the highest cases.
Dr. Mamba then added that Cholera and Measles cases are also under close watch, with Lilongwe reporting one case, Chitipa 38 cases and one death while Machinga had three suspected cases and Karonga reported one case with zero deaths over the past 28 days.
He also said there are 31 suspected Measles cases awaiting lab results.
Cumulatively, Malawi has reported 123 Measles cases and one death, with 49% of cases in children under five and 72% in those over five.
