Study reveals cost of treating unsafe abortion complications more expensive

A study by IPAS on the magnitude of unsafe abortion in Malawi has revealed that treating unsafe abortion complications is more expensive than managing safe abortion.

IPAS Health systems advisor Christopher Kandionamaso disclosed the findings during commemorations of International Safe Abortion Day in Lilongwe.

According to Kandionamaso the study has also shown that there are over 100,000 induced abortions annually in the country and over 50,000 women are treated for induced abortion complications.

Meanwhile Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi Ingrid Marie has emphasized on the need for women and girls to access Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) services if they are to contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
