The Publicity Secretary of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) who doubles as Minister of Higher Education, Jessie Kabwila, has called on all party supporters to turn out in large numbers and vote for President Dr Lazarus Chakwera in the forthcoming general election, set to take place on 16 September.
Kabwila made the appeal on Monday at Matenje Primary School in Salima Central West Constituency, where she submitted her nomination papers.
Addressing MCP supporters, Kabwila recognised the importance of unity within the party, stressing that it is key to securing victory and sustaining national development.
“Our government, under President Chakwera, is firmly committed to delivering meaningful development across all regions. Take, for instance, the ongoing construction of the M5 Road a clear sign of progress that will greatly benefit Salima and the entire lakeshore area,” remarked Kabwila.
Also in attendance was MCP Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo Banda, who hailed President Chakwera as a true champion of development.

“MCP is a party rooted in strong values and enduring principles. Those who were unsuccessful during the primaries should not despair instead , they must come together in support of President Chakwera and all MCP candidates,” said Chimwendo Banda.
He further noted that under President Chakwera’s leadership, the country has witnessed substantial progress through numerous development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.
He then urged all those who participated in the MCP primaries, including those who were not selected, to put aside their differences and rally behind the party’s endorsed candidates.
The MCP Secretary General also emphasised the need for both party leaders and members to use every platform and public engagement to promote peace, unity, and active participation in the upcoming elections.
