Dedza authorities concerned over rise in child abuse cases

Authorities in Dedza have expressed concern over the alarming rise in child abuse cases, which they attribute to superstitious beliefs.

Linthipe Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mathews Mario, highlighted this issue during the coronation of Senior Chief Kaphuka as an ambassador against child marriages in the district by World Relief Malawi.

According to Linthipe Police, the district has recorded 87 cases of child abuse.

His remarks come amidst an ongoing investigation into the discovery of an infant’s body, found wrapped in a graveyard in the same district on Monday, and the subsequent search for the parents responsible for the heinous act.
