Catchment Management Committee Members (CMCs) have hailed the Climate Smart- Enhanced Public Works Program (CS-EPWP), saying it has improved people’s livelihoods as well as the environment in Likoma District.
Likoma District CMC Chairman for CMS, Richard Mlandeni made the remarks during a review meeting organised by Likoma District Council.
“In all the catchment areas, everything is going on well, talk of soil retention through the construction of stone bunds, conservation of the environment and the participant’s lives have improved and many more,” said Mlandeni.
Another CMC member from Chizumulu Island Austice Kamanga said many households have benefitted from the programme as they can send their children to school unlike in the past.
Land Resource Officer for Likoma, Arthur Machila said the essence of the review meeting was to provide a platform to assess the effectiveness of the project.
CS-EPWP is a Government of Malawi Project and is a component of the Social Resilient Livelihoods Project (SSRLP) supported by the World Bank and Social Protection Multi Donor Trust Fund.
