Court adjourns bus depot case to July

The High Court in Lilongwe has adjourned what has become widely referred to as the bus depot case to 2 July 2024 after defence lawyers asked for more time.

The State is accusing businessperson Leston Mulli of illegal acquisition of five bus depots and a workshop in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, through his  National Bus Company.

Defence lawyer Gilbert Khonyongwa asked for an extension of 60 more days to make their oral submissions following a similar plea by the State.

On 5 February this year, High Court Judge Violet Chipawo gave the State 30 days and the defence 60 days to make their submissions after conclusion of the hearing.

“We realized that the State asked for an extension on its 30 days, so we are supposed to submit later than them that’s why we asked for  60 days for the written submissions,” Khonyongwa said.
