Financial Crimes Division of the High Court has confirmed that the case involving ESCOM’s former Board Chairperson, Jean Mathanga, former Chief Executive Officer, John Kandulu and two others will resume on 24 February, 2025.
The four are accused of flouting procurement procedures in a K4.6 billion contract in 2016.
Justice Violet Chipao is hearing the matter at the High Court’s registry in Blantyre.
On Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) paraded two witnesses in the case, including one of the suppliers, James Chuma.
ACB is expected to parade eight more witnesses, including five suppliers, investigators and a stores clerk.
In 2020, ACB arrested Mathanga and Kandulu for authorising payment of goods worth K4.6 billion that were supplied without any contract or Local Purchase Order.
