MP training to improve CDF management – Parliament

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Victor Musowa says Malawians should expect an improvement in the usage of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and implementation of development projects following a training of the legislators under the Parliament Training Programme.

Musowa has said this in Lilongwe during the closing ceremony of the training, which has equipped 45 parliamentarians with skills and knowledge on law,   governance, democracy,  financial oversight and mental and physical wellness, among others.

The first Deputy Speaker said the skills and knowledge acquired under financial oversight will enhance their capacity to play their role effectively, therefore contributing to the prudent use of the CDF under the new CDF guidelines.  He says the training is crucial in ensuring that guidelines are followed and delivered to the mandate of CDF.

Director General of the Malawi School of Government Lewis Dzimbiri said their aim is to transform the country’s public service landscape by capacitating public officers to perform and deliver well for improved service delivery in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the members of parliament, Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota Liwaladzi Thokozire Lunji Chanjo said the training will shape their duties and help them strike a balance between their responsibilities and well-being. She  has since encouraged fellow parliamentarians to apply knowledge and skills acquired to bring tangible change in their constituencies and the country.

The  Malawi Parliament  is expected to provide the train all parliamentarians in the country. The training is being done in collaboration with the Malawi School of Government with financial support from the European Union.
