Ecobank Day brings smiles to Mua School of the Deaf

Students and stakeholders of Mua School for the Deaf in Dedza District were all smiles over the weekend when Ecobank Malawi made a donation valued at K39 million to the school as part of the bank’s commemoration of Ecobank Day.

The support includes the refurbishment of an ICT classroom, the provision of ICT equipment and smart tablets with assistive functions and horseshoe desks tables, designed to enhance collaboration and learner participation.

Speaking during the event, Ecobank Malawi Managing Director Raymond Fordwuo said the 2025 Ecobank Day aligns with the Group’s three-year flagship campaign, Transforming Africa Through Education which focuses on strengthening learning environments and expanding access to digital education.

“These contributions are intended to create an enabling environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive, regardless of their abilities,” he said.

During the event, Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi Executive Director Simon Munde thanked the bank while emphasizing that disability is not inability.

Director of Inclusive Education and School Health in the Ministry of Education Virginia Kachigunda commended Ecobank Malawi for the support towards transforming Africa through education over the past three years.

“We are particularly encouraged to see Ecobank actively promoting inclusion within the education system by supporting learners with special needs and ensuring that no child is left behind,” she said.

The bank has invested over K60 million over the past two years in support of its three year campaign to support inclusive education which ends this year.

In 2023, it partnered the Ministry of Education to donate a Smart Classroom valued at K25 million to Ngumbe Community Day Secondary School, while in 2024, through the BEFIT Project, the bank supported AI-enabled learning by donating ICT equipment and infrastructure worth K35.5 million to Madziabango Primary School.
