Over 64,000 people to benefit from FISP in Zomba

Zomba Agriculture Office has distributed 95 percent of the Farm Input Subsidy Programme coupons that will benefit over 64,404 in the 2026 /2027 agriculture season.

Speaking Wednesday after handing over coupons to beneficiaries in Maera, Director of Agriculture Services James Takumana Lichapa said despite the fuel scarcity 95 percent of coupons have been distributed to farmers.

Lichapa said his office was also planning to distribute to communities across lake Chirwa, the only place remaining.

The director said it is the expectation of his office that farmers will start buying fertiliser and make mbeya manure in their respective groups.

“We have done our part and farmers must now work towards making mbeya manure,” he said.

As a way of ensuring success of the Programe, Lichapa said the agriculture office will continue monitoring the manure production processes across the district.

Rose Andreya, one of the beneficiaries, hailed the government and Zomba District Council for the timely distribution of coupons.

Andreya said, farmers will have ample time to buy fertiliser and make mbeya fertilizer way before the start of the rainy season.

“We are only praying that fertiliser will be available in our deports and that there will be no issues of network,” she hoped.

Zomba District Council received 32,202 coupons for the 2026/27 Farm Input Subsidy Programme.
