Chakwera to officially open Zomba Stadium

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is today expected to inaugurate the newly constructed Zomba Stadium.

The stadium, which was the dream and wish of the Zomba people, will be the epicentre of all sporting events in the district.

Upon arrival, President Dr Chakwera will cut a ribbon symbolizing official opening of the stadium and later unveil a plaque.

It is expected that the Malawi leader will also watch a full football match between Red Lions and Namikako Football clubs.

Meanwhile, people from various townships of the district have gathered inside the stadium to witness the official inauguration of the magnificent stadium by the Malawi leader.

Construction of the 20,000 capacity stadium started in 2017 and government has spent over K4.6 billion financing the project.

According to Zomba City Council Public Relations Officer, Aubrey Moses, the stadium is expected to generate over K300 million per year.
