Ministry of Health has declared that cholera is no longer an outbreak in the country, as there have been no confirmed cases in the past four weeks.
Secretary for health, Dr Samson Mndolo made this declaration which is in line with Global Task Force on Cholera Control and WHO means that all transmission chains of the disease has been fully interrupted.
Dr Mndolo attributed the successful containment of the disease to intensified implementation of preventive and control measures, including the Tithese and Tipewa Cholera campaigns.
He added that Ministry of Health will continue to remain vigilant and support multi-sectoral cholera prevention and control interventions.
The ministry has further urged the public to continue observing hygiene practices and report any cholera suspected cases to the nearest hospital.
Since 2022 since Cholera was declared an outbreak, Malawi registered 59,376 cases and 1,1772 deaths.
